Hey, I’m Lance! I write MG and YA novels. Welcome to my cool, fun website! Where cool, fun people can read about me in a cool, fun way. Please look around and click lots of stuff.
And if you’d like to subscribe to my free newsletter, Slow Dopamine, please do! I talk about creativity, writing, things I love, and tech mindfulness. It’s geared toward adults and teens (and occasionally features some tasteful cussing), but mature, creative tweens might appreciate it too.
Below are all my books. Click to learn more. Read them! Buy them! Borrow them from the library! And tell your friends about them! I hope you are having a cool, fun time here so far and that you’re having a decent day, with at least a couple laughs. Laughing is important. And so are you. Thank you for being here.
Here are books I’ve written:
Here are books I’ve written with other cool, fun people (my name is not on the cover of Bleak Creek, but it’s on the title page, I swear):
And here is a longer bio about me, where it sounds like it’s written by a fancy journalist but actually it’s just me the whole time (SHHHH!):
About Lance

Lance Rubin is the NY Times best-selling author of young adult and middle grade novels, including Denton Little’s Deathdate, Crying Laughing, and The Lost Causes of Bleak Creek (co-written with Rhett and Link of Good Mythical Morning). He was an ABA Indies Introduce pick for Denton Little’s Deathdate, which was the ILA YA book of the year in 2016. His books have also been Junior Library Guild selections, Amazon Books of the Month, and made many state reading lists.
Lance grew up in central NJ and, after graduating from Brown University, moved to NYC in 2004 to be an actor. He was somewhat successful! He performed in musicals written by Joe Iconis, co-wrote and performed The Lance and Ray Show with Ray Munoz at the UCB Theatre, and guest-starred on NBC's Mercy as a patient with a naked sleepwalking problem, amongst many other things.
Frustrated with his acting career (and dumped by his talent reps), in 2011 Lance started writing the novel that would eventually become Denton Little’s Deathdate. He’s thrilled to now focus mainly on writing books for young readers and is regularly inspired by meeting them at schools and festivals across the country. He would love to come to your school too!
Along with writing novels, Lance does voiceover work, co-writes musicals—including the Off-Broadway comedy Broadway Bounty Hunter starring Annie Golden—and writes songs, which he is sometimes inspired to put onto Instagram. He also has a regular newsletter about creativity, writing, and tech mindfulness called Slow Dopamine. (Sign up for it below!)
Lance loves reading books of all kinds. Recent favorites include Those Kids From Fawn Creek by Erin Entrada Kelly, Eventown by Corey Ann Haydu, No One Leaves the Castle by Christopher Healy, Answers in the Pages by David Levithan, and Comedy Book by Jesse David Fox.
Other things he loves include empathy, movies, and the NY Knicks.
Lance lives with his wife—writer Katie Schorr—and kids in Brooklyn. Nothing makes him happier than hearing from readers, so please don't hesitate to reach out if you're so inspired. He will always respond! (Though it may take a little time. He’s slow.)
Please make yourself at home as you look around! And subscribe if you like feeling good:
