“The show is an unabashedly silly sendup of martial-arts and Blaxploitation movies, and it’s a delight to see Golden as the lead after decades of supporting roles. The real star, however, is Iconis’s goofy catchy score.” — The New Yorker

This is a musical I co-wrote with Joe Iconis and Jason SweetTooth Williams that was Off-Broadway at the Greenwich House Theater in the summer of 2019, directed/choreographed by the great Jennifer Werner. Check out the original cast album from Ghostlight Records wherever you listen to music.

It starred Annie Golden—an incredibly awesome performer/person/actor who you may know from many things, including as Norma Romano in Orange is the New Black—as a down-on-her-luck veteran musical theater actor who gets pulled into the world of bounty-hunting and has to capture a drug lord in South America. The show uses the conventions and musical styles of exploitation movies of the 70s and 80s (like Shaft and Enter the Dragon) as we follow the story of this woman of a certain age , trying to find the inner strength she needs to save theatre and realize her true badass identity.

Our first production of Broadway Bounty Hunter happened at Barrington Stage Company in the summer of 2016. Before that, we’d developed the musical at many awesome places: the Weston Playhouse Artists’ Retreat, the Rhinebeck Writers Retreat, the Johnny Mercer Writers’ Colony at Goodspeed Musicals, and Cap21.
